BACK ASCEND 5'?m2f Puppets attend the ascension of Jesus LIZ -- (pops up, frantic, gasps) What was that?! (looks repeatedly at floor in front of stage, then at ceiling) I can't believe it! I can't believe it! (to audience) Did you see that?! (head wobbles, turns back to audience, faints, flopping head back on front right corner of stage) AMY -- (enters left, wearing cardboard angel wings, floats slowly toward Liz) Oh, dear! What have we here? Oh, dear! (bends over Liz) Are you alright? (to audience) Is she alright? LIZ -- (moans) AMY -- Oh, good. (to audience) At least she's not dead. (to Liz) Are you alright? LIZ -- (moans) I think I fainted. I... Oh, yes, I... I did faint. (stands) Oh, you should have seen it! You would not believe your eyes! (paces) He was standing right here (looks at floor in front of stage) in front of me... AMY -- (follows, peers over edge of stage) Yes, uh huh. LIZ -- (straightens and paces) ...then, all of a sudden, his whole body just lifted off the ground... (stops turns, nose to nose with Amy) ... all by itself... AMY -- ...all by itself... (follows) LIZ -- (paces) ...Yes, no strings, no ropes holding him up. His whole body just lifted off the ground all by itself... AMY -- ... all by itself... LIZ -- ...and then he just floated up through the air and disappeared into the clouds! I can't believe it! (head wobbles) AMY -- Oh, please, don't faint again! LIZ -- (faints, face up in same corner of stage) AMY -- (to audience) She fainted again. Oh, dear! (to Liz) Please wake up. Are you alright? LIZ -- (moans) AMY -- Please wake up. I have something to tell you. Are you alright? LIZ -- (moans) I think I fainted. I... Oh, yes, I... I did faint. (stands) AMY -- I know. I was here when you fainted, remember? (follows) LIZ -- (paces) Oh, yes, yes, I remember you now. But I don't know who you are. You're new around here, aren't you? AMY -- Why, yes, I am... LIZ -- Did you see him? Did you see that man just float up through the air and disappear into the clouds? AMY -- You're not going to faint again, are you? LIZ -- No. No, I'm okay now. (stops turns, nose to nose) But did you see him? Did you see that man? AMY -- Yes. Yes, I saw him. Do you know who that was? LIZ -- No. I didn't see his face. AMY -- That was Jesus. LIZ -- No! AMY -- Yes! LIZ -- (paces) You mean the man I just saw float off the ground into the air was Jesus himself?! AMY -- (examining) You're not going to faint again, are you? LIZ -- No. No, of course not. So, that was Jesus... The same man I saw healing all those sick people, and making that crippled man walk again... AMY -- ...Yes, that was him... LIZ -- ...the man who made that blind man see again, and that deaf man hear again... that was him? AMY -- Yes, that was him. LIZ -- Then, it's true!? They killed him and he really raised from the dead?! AMY -- Yes, it's true. Jesus did all that. He's in Heaven now. (looks up) But he'll come back again. LIZ -- (looks up) He will? He'll come back down to earth again? AMY -- Yes, he will. And when he comes again, he will come just the same way as he left. LIZ -- (to Amy) What do you mean? AMY -- (to audience) When Jesus comes back down to earth again, there will be lots of people watching, just like there are now and everyone will see him (sings, follows imaginary descent) floating down through the air just like we saw him leave. LIZ -- (follows the imaginary descent, sings) Floating through the air. AMY -- Just like now. (follows imaginary descent) No ropes, no strings, nothing holding him up, nothing except the strength of God himself. LIZ -- (looking at floor in front of stage) Wow! AMY -- (nose to nose) Say, you're not going to faint again, are you? LIZ -- No. No of course not. But tell me, when will Jesus come back again? AMY -- When? LIZ -- Yes, when will Jesus come back down to earth again, like you said? AMY -- Nobody knows for sure. But we know what has to happen before he comes back again. LIZ -- What's that? AMY -- Before Jesus will come again, everybody in the whole world must be told about all the great things Jesus did and how he died for our sins and rose again from the dead... LIZ -- (looks at floor in front of stage, follows imaginary ascent) And how his whole body just floated off the ground and right up into the clouds... AMY -- (follows imaginary ascent, suddenly nose to nose with Liz) Say, you're sure you're not going to faint again, are you? LIZ -- No. No, of course not. But tell me, how do you know so much about Jesus and where he is now and what has to happen before he comes back again? AMY -- I'm an angel. LIZ -- (paces) Oh, wow, I can't believe it! First, I see Jesus floating through the air into the clouds and now I see an... an... AMY -- (to audience, tilting head left and right) ...angel... I'm an angel. LIZ -- (head wobbles) Oh, wow! An angel! (faints, falls out of sight) AMY -- (looks down a Liz) Oh dear! Oh dear! You said you wouldn't faint again. I have more to tell you. (to audience) Boys and girls, the Lord sent me to tell him... to tell you all, that if you want to see the Lord coming again real soon, you should tell all your friends and family about all the great things Jesus did. Will you do that, boys and girls? (waits for response) Good! (looks down at Liz) Oh, well, I guess I have to take care of my friend here. Bye, Bye, everybody! (exits, walking down stairs, to Liz) Oh, dear. Are you alright? ©2013 Bob Snook. Conditions for use: Do not sell any part of this script, even if you rewrite it.
