INT AFTERNOON WIDE: WORTHINGTON MANSION ENTRYWAY

(Special Agent Frank Pierce and Police Lieutenant Grimly stand
in open doorway pleading with Nanny)

                             NANNY

(paces)

The more I hear about this operation, the less I like it.

(stops, points at door)

For the third time, the answer is NO. Please leave.

                             PIERCE

Nanny, please!

                             KATIE

(slides down banister, hops off)

I thought I heard the door bell.

                             NANNY

(points at door)

Leave. Now.

                             KATIE

Special Agent Pierce! Lieutenant Grimly! It's nice to see you
again! You have a covert op for us?

                          PIERCE & GRIMLY

Yes.

                             NANNY

(simultaneously)

No.

                            GRIMLY

We sent three requests to your web site.

                             NANNY

I just asked you to leave!

(points)

Leave!

                             KATIE

I just checked my web site. I didn't see any requests.

                             PIERCE

(points)

That's because your nanny removed our requests from your web
site.

                             NANNY

I'll explain everything to Katie as soon as you leave.

                             KATIE

(steps toward door)

Well, as long as they're here...

(Agent and Grimly smile and open their mouths to speak)

                             NANNY

(steps into Katie's path)

It involves explosives.

                             KATIE

(sidesteps)

I don't mind ex...

                             NANNY

(steps into Katie's path)

When explosives are involved, I...

                             PIERCE

(makes eye contact with Katie)

It's your dad who's in trouble.

                             NANNY

(steps into Katie's path, points)

                             KATIE

(sidesteps)

What happened to Daddy?! Is he in trouble?!

                             NANNY

(pushes Agent and Grimly out the door)

If you leave now, I'll do the covert op myself.

                            GRIMLY

We need the girl.

                            PIERCE

We need both of you!

                             KATIE

Daddy is in trouble, isn't he?!

                         GRIMLY & PIERCE

Yes.

                             NANNY

(simultaneously)

Nothing I can't handle by myself.

                             KATIE

Why can't I help too?!

                             NANNY

Did I mention explosives?

(motions to visitors)

Tell her about this particular bomb, gentlemen.

                             AGENT

It's called a thermobaric device.

(Katie shrugs)

                             NANNY

It vaporizes everything within a half mile of it.

                            GRIMLY

That means your dad will be vaporized unless you help.

                             KATIE

(knees collapse, cries)

Oh no!

                             NANNY

(kneels, cuddles Katie)

Oh Katie!

(grimaces at visitors, to Katie)

This is not my decision. Your dad commanded me that if I have to
choose between his safety and yours, I must choose your safety.

                             KATIE

But Daddy is going to die if we don't help!

                             NANNY

Sweetie, this is why I wouldn't let them ask you! When you're
emotionally involved with the victim, you can't stay objective.
You would be in double danger.

                             KATIE

Nanny, I want to help!

                             NANNY

You don't even know what the mission is.

                             KATIE

It doesn't matter. You know the mission. You'll talk me through
it the way you always do. It's my dad! Please?!

                             NANNY

Katie! You're going to get me fired!

INT EVENING WIDE: COMMAND TRUCK

(Truck is in motion as Nanny and Katie study the map wall with
Pierce and Grimly. There are side views and floor plans of
skyscraper)

                             NANNY

(points)

The executive suite is on the fiftieth floor.

                             KATIE

That's Daddy's office.

                             NANNY

And that's where General Otupu will place the bomb.

                            PIERCE

We don't know where the bomb is. All we know is that the bomb
sniffers on the ground floor tripped the alarm.

                            GRIMLY

How can you be sure he moved the bomb all the way to the top
floor?

                             NANNY

Because I know this guy.

                             KATIE

Nanny was the director of Worthington Industries African
security before she became my nanny.

                             NANNY

General Otupu is no general. He's just a thug. He dresses in
military uniforms so people will take him seriously. I had to
drive him and his band of thugs out of Cameroon before
Worthington Industries could buy the diamond mine there.
Unfortunately, Otupu fled to Yemen, where he learned how to
build bombs. It's the only thing he's ever been good at.

                            GRIMLY

So, how can you be so sure that he placed the bomb on the top
floor?

(points)

                             NANNY

Because he wants to make a name for himself. A bomb that big
will be seen for hundreds of miles if it goes off on the
fiftieth floor.

                            PIERCE

But he said he wouldn't set off the bomb if we let him escape
with the diamonds.

                             NANNY

If you believe that, I've got this bridge over the East River
I'd like to sell you.

                            GRIMLY

So, you think he'll set off the bomb no matter what.

                             NANNY

As sure as I'm standing here. Otupu wants this explosion to be
on the front page of the newspaper and he'll do ANYTHING to get
it.

                            PIERCE

So, the twenty million dollars in diamonds are not his primary
objective?

                             NANNY

Oh, the diamonds are important. But guess where those particular
diamonds came from.

                            PIERCE

Cameroon?

                            GRIMLY

So, this whole thing is about revenge?

                             NANNY

Worthington Industries embarrassed Otupu in Cameroon. So, Andrew
Worthington and his high rise building will be vaporized whether
Otupu gets the diamonds or not.

                            PIERCE

General Otupu demanded a helicopter to land on the roof of the
building within...

(looks at watch)

one hour and... three minutes...

                             NANNY

And the helicopter will whisk him away to his private jet plane
at a small airport, preferably one without a control tower.

                            PIERCE

He has his own jet plane?!

(pulls out phone)

I'll have the F.A.A. do a search for his jet. There's only a
handful of runways in this area that can accommodate a jet.

(turns away, talks inaudibly on the phone)

                            GRIMLY

You're not suggesting that we let a helicopter land on the
building, are you?

                             NANNY

Yes, but we're not going to wait for an hour.

                            GRIMLY

You've got to be kidding me! We're not ready to breech the
building yet!

                             NANNY

That's good, because you can't breech the building anyway.

                            GRIMLY

Why not?

                             NANNY

Two reasons: First, Otupu is a bomb maker. He has undoubtedly
rigged booby traps...

(points)

at all the entrances to the building, in all the stairways and
in all elevator shafts. That leaves only the roof of the
building as an access point.

(points)

Second, the diamonds are in the vault inside the executive suite
and Otupu will torture Andrew Worthington until he gives up the
combination to the vault. If we wait an hour, there won't be
much of Mr Worthington left to rescue.

                            GRIMLY

Okay, so if we can't go in and get this guy, we'll nab him as he
leaves the building.

                             NANNY

There's a good chance Otupu is not even in the building.

                            GRIMLY

Excuse me?

                             NANNY

Above all else, Otupu is a coward. That's how I was able to
chase him out of Africa. He doesn't want to be anywhere near a
bomb that could kill him.

                            GRIMLY

Oh, brother.

                             NANNY

(points to map)

Worthington Industries Tower is here. The executive sweet is on
the west side of the building. The bomb will be placed next to
the window so Otupu can see it from outside the building. That
means ...

(sweeps finger left)

we'll find him looking through a telescope on the roof of a tall
building over here, outside the blast radius. That way, if he
sees us tampering with the bomb or if he thinks he has no chance
of getting the diamonds,...

                            GRIMLY

He would blow up his own men?!

                             NANNY

Without a second thought. That's why I didn't want Katie to go
anywhere near Worthington Industries.

                            GRIMLY

I'll flood the west side of the city with cops until we find
him.

                             NANNY

Negative. From the rooftop, Otupu will have overview of the
streets below. If he sees a cop or a squad car, he'll blow the
Worthington Industries Building by remote control.

                            GRIMLY

So, how do we proceed?

                             NANNY

Use unmarked cars and policemen dressed like janitors. Search
the tallest buildings from the top down but wait for us to
disarm the bomb before you take down Otupu.

EXT NIGHT WIDE: AIR SPACE BESIDE WORTHINGTON INDUSTRIES TOWER

("Worthington Industries" Helicopter, with all doors removed,
Nanny at the controls, rises straight up just a few feet from
the windows. A thug with a rifle rushes toward the window
speaking into walky talky.)

                             NANNY

At least one of Otupu's men is stationed on the twenty-fifth
floor of the building.

                            GRIMLY

(voiceover)

Could that mean he placed the bomb in the middle of the
building?

                             NANNY

No. I think there is a second set of booby-traps in the
stairways and elevator shafts half way up the building. It's
going to take your bomb squad guys hours to clear this building.

                            GRIMLY

(voiceover)

Copy that. It looks like this is all on you and Katie. We're
standing by for your signal.

(As the helicopter ascends past the top floor, Andrew
Worthington is seen tied to a chair next to a three-foot cubic
wooden box with top removed showing blinking lights inside,
Andrew's face is bruised and his mouth is bleeding. Thug1
approaches the window, turns and motions toward the roof to
Thug2, who exits to the stairway)

                             NANNY

We have confirmation of the bomb on the fiftieth floor right
next to the hostage, Andrew Worthington. General Otupu is not in
the building.

                            GRIMLY

That means a remote controlled detonation as you suspected.
Unfortunately we have not located Otupu as yet.

                             NANNY

The vault is closed. That means Worthington is still refusing to
give up the combination to the vault. We are GO for plan A.
Repeat, we are GO for plan A. Do not attempt to breech the
building until the bomb is disarmed.

                            GRIMLY

Go for plan A. Standing by.

EXT NIGHT OVER-THE-SHOULDER: WORTHINGTON INDUSTRIES ROOFTOP

(Helicopter lands on the helipad as Thug2 with an automatic
rifle opens the roof access door and runs up the stairs. He
waives his gun at Nanny signaling her to exit the helicopter.
She lifts her hands off the controls and into the air, exits
helicopter slowly)

                             NANNY

(approaches Thug2 slowly with hands raised, Thug2 speaks into
walky talky, then holsters walky talky.)

Plan A begins in three, two, one, zero.

(Katie pops up stealthily from under carpet inside helicopter,
flicks finger)

(special affect: ammo clip falls out of Thug2's rifle)

(Thug2 reacts, bends, Nanny grabs the rifle and his hands and
flips his body over her back, he lands on his back, Nanny smacks
Thug2 with the heel of her hand, drags him down the stairs)

Nice work, young lady. You know what to do next?

                             KATIE

(follows with black duffle bag full of tools)

Disable the roof access door.

                             NANNY

(dragging Thug2 into a hiding spot)

Do it.

(Katie pulls out hammer and wedges, pounds wedges into crack
between roof access door and door frame above and below knob.
Nanny emerges from the hiding place, removes cover from air
vent, drops rope down the shaft, attaches clips to rope, clips
rope to her own climbers harness, then, when Katie arrives,
clips her harness too. They descend out of sight down the rope
together.)

INT NIGHT POV: WORTHINGTON INDUSTRIES BUILDING EXECUTIVE SUITE

(Nanny peers through louvers at Thug1 standing over Andrew)

                            THUG1

I'm running out of patience! Tell me!

(slaps)

Tell me the combination to the vault!

                            ANDREW

Your helicopter is waiting. You'd better get up there before he
leaves.

                            THUG1

I'm not leaving without the diamonds.

(raises hand)

Tell me!

INT NIGHT CLOSE-UP: WORTHINGTON INDUSTRIES EXECUTIVE KITCHEN

(Katie hides under a table)

                             NANNY

(voiceover simultaneously in low tones)

On my mark: three, two, one, zero.

(Katie makes a horizontal stroke with her hand)

(special affect: a glass coffee pot is swept off the counter and
crashes onto the floor)

INT NIGHT POV: WORTHINGTON INDUSTRIES BUILDING EXECUTIVE SUITE

(Nanny peers through louvers at Thug1)

                             THUG1

(turns)

What was that?!

(lowers hand, pulls out walky-talky)

I heard someone in the kitchen. Check it out!

(pockets walky-talky, sneaks to door, readies pistol, opens
door, Thug3 pushes Katie into room)

Well! What have we here?

(points)

Worthington, do you know this kid?

                            ANDREW

Katie!

                             KATIE

Daddy!

(runs, hugs Andrew)

                            ANDREW

What are you doing here?!

                            THUG1

(approaches)

So, this is your daughter!

                             KATIE

Daddy, I couldn't let them beat you! I want to give them the
diamonds.

                            ANDREW

Katie, no! As soon as they get the diamonds, they're going to
set off this bomb!

(Katie holds locket, points one finger up)

(Andrew looks up subtly)

                             THUG1

Nonsense! All we want is the diamonds. As soon as you give us
the diamonds, your father can go free. You can trust us.

                             NANNY

(POV: Nanny peers through monocular at bomb)

(simultaneously, softly)

Katie, the bomb is activated by a cell phone. Do you see it?

(nods subtly)

If Otupu rings that phone, the bomb will go off. So, you need to
block his call by dialing my cell phone number.

(Katie nods subtly, then turns toward bomb cell phone)

(special affect: during the following dialogue, the buttons on
the bomb phone press one at a time, as 555-8987 appears on the
cell phone screen one digit at a time)

                             THUG1

Little girl, do you know the combination to the vault?

                             KATIE

The diamonds aren't in the vault.

                            ANDREW

(playing along)

Katie, no! You don't know what you're doing!

                            THUG1

Where are the diamonds?

                             KATIE

I'll tell you if you promise to let my daddy go.

                            THUG1

I promise. Where are the diamonds?

                            ANDREW

Katie, no!

                             KATIE

When the alarm went off on the main floor, Daddy moved the
diamonds to the copy room.

(cell phone number now complete, turns, points)

(sound cue: muted buzzing of Nanny's phone)

(Nanny pulls phone from pocket, screen lights up, Nanny pokes
several buttons on cell phone)

                            THUG1

Show me.

                             KATIE

(exiting)

This way.

                            THUG1

(to Thug3 exiting, pointing at Andrew)

Watch him.

EXT NIGHT POV: OTUPU'S VIEW OF EXECUTIVE SUITE

(as soon as door closes, Nanny shoots Thug3 with stun gun, Thug3
stiffens, shakes, collapses, Nanny lowers herself through the
air vent to the floor, drags Thug3 into closet, smacks him with
the heel of her hand, closes the closet door, crosses to bomb,
pokes cell phone keys)

INT NIGHT CLOSE-UP: ABANDONED BUILDING TOP FLOOR

(Otupu peers through telescope on a tripod)

                             OTUPU

Rats! I wanted those diamonds!

(sneers, dials cell phone)

Well, at least I'll get my revenge.

(sound cue: busy signal)

Busy?! How could that cell phone be busy?!

(dials cell phone)

(sound cue: busy signal)

INT NIGHT WIDE: WORTHINGTON INDUSTRIES BUILDING EXECUTIVE SUITE

                            ANDREW

Nanny, how could you involve my daughter in this? You're fired!

                             NANNY

(touches her headset, then pokes buttons on bomb phone)

Lieutenant Grimly, have you located Otupu yet?

                            GRIMLY

Negative. We searched all the rooftops on the west side. No joy.

                             NANNY

(pokes button on own cell phone, climbs rope into air duct)

I have a way to locate Otupu. He called the cell phone on the
bomb from his own cell phone to test the detonator earlier. So,
I've texted Otupu's cell phone number to you. You can
triangulate his cell phone to locate him.

                            GRIMLY

Copy that. I'm on it.

                             NANNY

(to Andrew pointing to copy room)

When he gets back, tell him that this...

(points to closet)

guy ran up to the helicopter with all the diamonds. Tell him the
diamonds were wrapped to look like a ream of paper.

(closes duct cover)

(Thug1 reenters with Katie)

                             KATIE

I tell you it was there! I saw Daddy put it in there! Tell him,
Daddy!

                            ANDREW

It was there, alright. The diamonds were wrapped in a package to
look like a ream of copier paper. But that other guy just ran
with it up to the helicopter.

                            THUG1

Why, that double-crossing, miserable little....

(runs to other door, draws pistol, exits, Katie follows, locks
the door)

                             NANNY

(Nanny lowers herself through the air vent to the floor)

Katie, I might need your help on this.

(crosses by Worthington to wooden box, removes electronics cover
from bomb using pocket multitool, peers inside with small
flashlight)

                            ANDREW

Nanny! I said you're fired!

                             NANNY

Fire me later. I'm busy.

                             KATIE

(follows Nanny)

It was my fault, Daddy. I made her bring me here.

                             NANNY

Mr Worthington, we won't have time to free you before Otupu's
man gets back. We only have about a minute to permanently
disable the bomb detonator so they can't set it off manually.

Ooo! This isn't good!

                            ANDREW

What's the matter?

                             NANNY

Otupu learned his craft well. He put a tilt switch inside the
detonator.

                            ANDREW

What does that mean?

                             NANNY

It means I can't move the detonator without setting off the bomb
myself.

                             KATIE

Are you saying you can't disable this bomb?

                             NANNY

I can't, but YOU can.

                             KATIE

Me?! I don't know anything about bombs!

                             NANNY

No, but, thanks to your new gift, you can disconnect the wire
that I can't reach with my fingers or these pliers.

                            ANDREW

New gift? What gift? Is she talking about your locket?

                             KATIE

Nanny, he doesn't know about my gift. We... we haven't told him
about...

                             NANNY

We'll talk about it later. Right now, you need to focus on that
yellow wire down on the bottom on the right side, there. See it?

(points)

                             KATIE

(peers)

Next to the green wire?

                             NANNY

Yes. That yellow wire has a brass sleeve on the end of it. The
sleeve slips over a pin on the circuit board.

                             KATIE

So, I slide the sleeve off the pin?

                             NANNY

Yes. But hurry. It will only take a minute for Otupu to call his
man on the walky talky and tell him that we've disabled this
thing. Then, he'll come back down here and...

                            THUG1

(turns door knob unsuccessfully, voiceover)

Let me in!

(bangs on door, pounds with gun, later with heavy object)

                             KATIE

Oh oh!

                             NANNY

Focus, Katie. Focus! KATIE


I've never done it with such small things before.

(tilts head, grimaces)

I'm... not... sure... I can do this.

(pants)

                             NANNY

Try again. You can do this!

(shots fired, holes appear in door around door knob)

                             KATIE

(deep breath)

Focus, Katie, Focus!

(more pounding on the door, tilts head, grimaces, sleeve slides
off pin)

I got it.

(Nanny touches headset, walks to rope)

Bomb is disabled. Repeat: bomb is disabled. Go for breech. Go
for arrest of General Otupu.

(raises hands)

                            THUG1

(enters, gun drawn, showing walky talky)

General Otupu tells me a woman disarmed the bomb.

(points pistol at Nanny)

I assume it was you!

                             NANNY

Yes, sir. I landed my helicopter on the roof of this building
and lowered myself on this rope.

                             THUG1

Did you bring anyone else with you?

(Thug1 sneaks to examine air vent, points pistol)

                             NANNY

(backs away)

Yes, sir, I did.

(Nods at Katie. Katie grits her teeth, makes a slight lifting
motion. Thug1's hand raises suddenly, pistol smacks him in the
face. He drops to the floor.)

(Nanny kicks Thug1's pistol from his hand with her foot, kneels,
rolls him onto his stomach, pulls his arms behind his back)

Katie! You were suppose to release his ammo clip!

                             KATIE

I already did that once. It's boring.

                             NANNY

(wraps Thug1's wrists with plastic ties)

Katie Worthington, you need to stick to the mission plan! What
was the mission plan?

                             KATIE

I do the diversions, you do the whacking. Sorry, Nanny.

                             NANNY

(Gives Katie multitool)

Cut your father loose.

(Katie exits frame)

(Nanny touches headset)

Lieutenant Grimly, did you track down General Otupu?

                            GRIMLY

He got away.

                             NANNY

He what?

                            GRIMLY

We tracked his cell phone like you said. But when we broke into
the room, all we found was a telescope and his cell phone.

                             NANNY

He must have bolted as soon as he saw me touch the bomb. Agent
Pierce, have you located Otupu's jet plane?

                            PIERCE

(voiceover)

Affirmative. My strike team has commandeered the plane and
arrested the flight crew. Otupu is grounded.

                             NANNY

Yes, but he's still a threat!

INT NIGHT CLOSE-UP: KATIE'S BEDROOM

(Katie is asleep in bed with back turned. Nanny, fully clothed,
comm headset hooked over her ear, sits in a chair, eye lids
close, head nods repeatedly. Cell phone vibrates in Nanny's
hand. Nanny reads cell phone screen, crosses to bed, rubs
Katie's shoulder, whispers)

                             NANNY

Katie. Katie wake up.

                             KATIE

(rolls over)

Is it time to go to school already?

                             NANNY

(whispers)

The motion sensors tripped the alarm. Get up and go to the panic
room. Hurry.

(exits)

INT NIGHT CLOSE-UP: ANDREW'S BEDROOM

(Andrew is asleep with back turned. Nanny rubs his shoulder,
whispers)

Mr Worthington. Mr Worthington, wake up!

                            ANDREW

(rolls over, moans, alarmed)

Why are you here?! I fired you!

                             NANNY

You can fire me later. Otupu is out in your back garden. The
police are on the way, but you need to go to the panic room and
monitor the surveillance equipment while I confront Otupu.

(exits running)

INT NIGHT CLOSE-UP: WORTHINGTON MANSION BACK DOOR

(Nanny approaches door carrying pistol, reading cell phone
screen, bumps into Katie who is now wearing a comm headset)

                             NANNY

(gasps, points pistol, whispers)

Katie Worthington! I almost shot you! Why aren't you in the
panic room?!

                             KATIE

I want to go with you!

                             NANNY

(examining cell phone screen, whispers)

Katie, we talked about this! Your dad is already mad at me.

(Katie is unmoved, arms behind back)

Alright! I don't have time to argue with you.

(points up)

You have overwatch from up on the roof.

                             KATIE

(turns, runs)

I'll wait for your command.

                             NANNY

Negative!

                             KATIE

(stops, turns)

Huh?!

                             NANNY

That thing I said before about letting ME do the bashing?

                             KATIE

Yeah?

                             NANNY

Rescind that order. Aim for Otupu's head!

                             KATIE

(smiles, salutes)

Sir, yessir!

EXT NIGHT OVER-THE-SHOULDER: WORTHINGTON BACK GARDEN

(Nanny stalks Otupu as he sneaks in and out of the bushes)

                            ANDREW

(voiceover)

Nanny, Katie is not here in the panic room.

                             NANNY

(whispers)

Sorry, sir, she countermanded my order.

                            ANDREW

You're fired!

                             NANNY

(Nanny creeps to hedge, raises up, aims pistol at Otupu near a
wall, creeps left to get a clear shot)

You can fire me later, sir. Right now, I'm a little busy.

EXT NIGHT SPLIT-SCREEN: WORTHINGTON MANSION ROOF

                             KATIE

(leaning over the edge of the roof, makes repeated sweeping
motions with her hand)

(Special affects: one by one the small flower pots on the wall
fall, missing Otupu and crashing loudly, then, finally, one
smashes on Otupu's head)

(Otupu kneels briefly, stands, staggers out of frame holding his
head)

                             NANNY

(Lowers her weapon, taps headset)

Nice shot, baby girl!

                             KATIE

(leaning over the edge of the roof)

Thanks. I've been practicing.

(end split-screen)

EXT NIGHT WIDE: WORTHINGTON BACK GARDEN

                             NANNY

(rises up, points pistol in all directions)

Mr Worthington, I've lost sight of him. Do you have eyes on him?

INT NIGHT SPLIT-SCREEN: WORTHINGTON MANSION PANIC ROOM

                            ANDREW

(scans several video screens)

Katie did that?! How did she do that?!

                             NANNY

Mr Worthington, you need to focus. There's a mad bomber in your
back yard.

                            ANDREW

(leans toward screens)

Otupu is approaching the east stairway to the balcony. He just
pulled something out of his thigh pocket. There's a blinking
light on it. Oh, dear!

(end split screen)

                             NANNY

(runs bent over along side a hedge, pops up, points pistol,
Otupu begins climbing stairs)

I have eyes on him. Katie, can you slow him down?

EXT NIGHT SPLIT-SCREEN: WORTHINGTON MANSION ROOF

                             KATIE

(leaning over the edge of the roof, makes repeated sweeping
motions with her hand)

Affirmative.

(Special affects: one by one, chairs from around a table on the
balcony, shuffle toward the stairs then tumble down toward
Otupu, who must avoid them as he climbs the stairs. When Otupu
comes under a balcony railing, the planter on top of the railing
tips and falls)

(Planter shatters on Otupu's head knocking him backward, he
somersaults backward to the bottom of the stairs. Nanny rolls
him onto his belly, kneels on his butt, pulls his hands behind
his back, tie-wraps his wrists, red and blue lights blink and
sirens sound)

Excellent marksmanship, Katie!

INT NIGHT SPLIT-SCREEN: WORTHINGTON MANSION PANIC ROOM

                            ANDREW

(scans several video screens)

Can somebody please explain to me what I just saw?!
