OSMOSIS 3'?m2f Bible reading, truth, hearing God's voice

(scene: a park bench or four chairs side-by-side facing

AMY -- (enters carrying Bible, sits, opens Bible, reads)

LIZ -- (enters carrying Bible, sits on far end of bench, places
binding of Bible against own ear, raises other hand toward sky)

AMY -- (nods when Liz sits, watches, pauses) Excuse me. What are
you doing?

LIZ -- Hold on. I'll be done here in a minute.

AMY -- (looks around, stands, looks around) Are we on camera?

LIZ -- Huh?

AMY -- Am I going to appear on America's funniest Home Videos?

LIZ -- (pauses, drops hands to lap, deep breath) There. I'm

AMY -- (sits) You're done.

LIZ -- Yes.

AMY -- Done, doing what?

LIZ -- I was getting God's word for me today.

AMY -- You didn't even open your Bible. How were you getting
God's word?

LIZ -- Through the interpretation of the Holy Spirit.

AMY -- Don't you READ your Bible?

LIZ -- Not anymore.

LIZ -- Well, I used to read the Bible, but then I read these
books that tell me to listen for the voice of God.

AMY -- And these books tell you NOT to read your Bible?

LIZ -- Well, no. But I figured that if God was going to talk to
me directly, why would I need to read my Bible at all? I'll get
all I need to know from God himself.

AMY -- Very interesting.

LIZ -- You ought to try it. It's a lot less work than reading
the Bible.

AMY -- No thanks. (resumes reading)

LIZ -- Why are you still reading when you can get God's own

AMY -- (points to Bible) These ARE God's own words.

LIZ -- Oh. I suppose they are.

AMY -- How do you know YOUR words are...

LIZ -- From God?

AMY -- Yes. How do you know that the voice you hear is not your
own self-interest or a demon or Satan himself?

LIZ -- I just know.

AMY -- But HOW do you know?

LIZ -- How?

AMY -- Yes, for instance, the writers who wrote God's words in
here (points to Bible) prove the supernatural origin of the
words by performing miracles and successfully predicting the
future. Do you get any such validation from your VOICE?

LIZ -- Well, no. I just know, that's all.

AMY -- What if the voice you hear tells you something that
disagrees with what God already wrote here? (points)

LIZ -- Well, I wouldn't know about that. I don't know my Bible
very well. I just know that my voice is from the spirit of God.

AMY -- Yes, but that same spirit, working through his human
writers told us to TEST all the spirits.

LIZ -- He did?

AMY -- Yes. He even commended one church for testing every
teaching against the scriptures to confirm that it's not

LIZ -- He did?

AMY -- Yes.

LIZ -- Well, gee, the voice I'm hearing seems to be so warm and
loving. I can't imagine that it could be anybody but God

AMY -- But how do you know unless you TEST what he says against
what God already said?

LIZ -- I guess I don't.

AMY -- (points) Matthew 7:13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For
wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to
destruction, and many enter through it.

LIZ -- Oh, gee, you don't suppose I could get into trouble by
not reading my Bible, do you?

AMY -- I wish I had a nickel for every cult that was started by
prophecies that disagreed with God's word in the Bible.

LIZ -- (exiting) Well, gee, maybe I should defuse the bomb until
I find out if...

AMY -- (stands) Bomb?! What bomb?! (exits opposite running)
